I received a great money-saving tip from one of my readers that I wanted to pass along to you. The email went as follows:
“Two years ago my husband and I had a bunch of Air Miles built up, but we knew we wouldn’t be using them in the near future so we used them up to buy gift cards which we then used for gifts for our brothers, grandparents, etc. I’m not sure if we got the biggest return for the miles (not sure of the rate) but what’s the point in holding onto points for a flight you may never take? Better to use them up I say.”
I totally agree. If you are not planning on using your rewards points from your Air Miles card or from your credit card(s) for travelling, then you might as well make good use of them in other ways. Although generally speaking your points go much further when you do use them for travel, there is no point in accumulating a vast number of points and never making use of them. This is a great time to start redeeming points to use towards tackling your Christmas list. I would recommend that you start the process right away, though, as it might take a while before you receive your gift cards.
What are some things you do to help you save when you Christmas shop?
