Groceries can get expensive every month, especially if you entertain guests frequently in your home. My husband and I love inviting friends over for dinner, but we also want to stick within our grocery budget, so here are a few tips that we have found to be helpful in being good hosts while sticking within our spending limits.
TIP 1: A Couple of Inexpensive Meal Ideas
1. Serve breakfast for dinner. There aren’t too many folks that I know that wouldn’t appreciate a good hearty breakfast at anytime of the day. Include eggs, pancakes or waffles, toast, perhaps some hash browns and then either some bacon or sausages. You could easily feed ten or more for less than $30.
2. Serve Italian Sausages and Buns with Salad and Chips. Select a sausage of your choice, whether it is Smokies or Italian Sausages and either bake them in the oven or better yet, barbecue them. Serve them in fresh buns and make a tossed salad. Serve potato chips on the side. You should be able to feed ten or more people for about $25.
TIP 2: Do a Potluck
If you are inviting over close friends or family members and you find you are getting together a lot, do a potluck. Everyone likes to contribute anyway, and if you coordinate ahead of time, you can ensure that everything that people bring goes along with the theme for the meal.
TIP 3: Relax, and have fun!
Don’t worry too much about trying to impress your guests. Just be yourself and don’t go overboard with your spending on the meal. Your guests will appreciate whatever you make because it means they didn’t have to cook!
