Get A Second Opinion For Car Repairs

When you shop around for big -ticket items like laptops and appliances, you would likely be prone to shop around, right?  Well, it’s a wise idea to do the same when your car is in need of a major repair.  Why?  Because you might be able to save a lot of money on your repairs by getting a second opinion.  Not to mention the fact that you might also find out that some of the repairs that the first shop recommended may not be required.

We recently had to do some major repairs on our car.  The first shop my husband took our car to estimated the cost to be about $100 more than the second shop.  We generally just go to the shop nearest to us since it is so close and convenient, however,  my husband thought it would be a good idea to try another shop since the repairs were so costly.  I’m glad he did.  For the extra bit of time it took him to get the second opinion, we saved some hard-earned cash that could be used towards other savings goals.

Although I usually end up still doing some shopping in the overcrowded malls in December, I am happy to say that almost every year I have shopped for at least half the people on my list before the big rush, so it makes shopping much easier.

How To Find The Best Tires For Your Car

We recently had to replace the tires on our newer car.   Ouch!.  We go through tires quickly as we make our car work hard.  Long road trips can be really tough on tires, so we have discovered.  Most people only change their tires once every few years, but we have to change them more frequently as we use our car a lot for long-distance travel.

Rather than just bringing your vehicle to the shop and asking for new tires, it is important to do your research, to ensure you are getting the best tire for your money.  There are also different tires designed for different types of use.  Some are made to give you a really smooth ride, but they aren’t built to last as long as the more rugged ones.  We learned this the hard way.
