I never used to be a Costco shopper, mainly because we used to live in a small rural town and getting to the big city frequently just wasn’t reasonable. However, now that we live in a city, we have started to shop at Costco on a regular basis. There are a few things I want to share you about my experience so far. Hopefully some of these tips will help you when you shop.
grocery shopping
Now that groceries are more expensive than ever before, I’ve had to tweak my grocery shopping strategies. In the past, to save time, I would have opted to shop at just one or two stores for almost everything, but now, it’s just too expensive. Below are some strategies I have been using in order to save money while I grocery shop.
Saving money is on most people’s mind these days. There are some areas where it is difficult to save money, but there are also areas where savings can be made relatively easily. The kitchen is one such place where you can find savings in many ways. Here are six to get you started.
- Shop at the right time
Don’t ever go to the supermarket hungry as you will want to buy everything. Also don’t go shopping until you have planned out meals for the week and you have a list of the ingredients you need. This way you will only buy what is required and, as a result, save money.
- Bulk buy and don’t buy often
Buying in bulk will often bring the biggest savings, so it’s a good idea to do a big shop once a month. This allows you to buy in bulk and then only go shopping in between when you need to replenish fresh foods. Going to the supermarket less frequently means less temptation to buy things you don’t really need.
Joanne from kitchenhome.co.uk would tell you that buying in bulk is a great idea as long as you have the space in your cupboards or fridge/freezer as doing so saves you both money and time.
There are so many great ways you can save money on groceries, what with online coupons, online flyers, apps catering to the frugal shopper, and so on, but here are some tried but true things I’ve noticed that have saved me money while shopping in a local grocery store.
Really pay attention at the cashier line. So many times I’ve noticed our local grocery store doesn’t seem to update their computers to reflect the sales prices. So, I have learned to watch the prices like a hawk as they are going through the checkout. Multiple times I have had to point out that the price of an item was incorrect. I’ve gotten kind of tired of doing this time and again, but it’s either that or may way too much for my purchases.
