5 Ways To Save Money At The Hair Salon

how to save money at the salonKeeping your hair both maintained and looking good can be a serious investment. Getting your hair professionally cut, shaped, blow-dried, dyed, highlighted and permed at a hair salon can be incredibly expensive. Some people who have their hair dyed professionally can end up spending hundreds of dollars every month. This can seriously start to add up, especially if you have to make monthly trips to your stylist. You might want the newest celebrity hair-do, but what most people don’t realize is that these celebs have an around the clock team, which most of us don’t have the resources for.

Here are 5 ways to save money at the hair salon:

Take care of your hair. One of the best ways to make a haircut last is to make sure your hair is healthy and well conditioned. Most people don’t take the time to condition their hair a few days a week after a visit to a professional stylist, which can lead to many more visits to the hair salon. It is recommended that after you go to the stylist that you make sure to pick up a top of the line conditioner, which can maintain the health and styling of your hair for much longer.

Get a cut that works for your specific hair type. Most people rip out pages from the latest celebrity gossip magazine hoping to recreate a hairstyle they like on one of their favorite actresses or recording artists. However, everyone’s hair is vastly different and it can be expensive to recreate someone else’s hairstyle, because of all the maintenance that is involved. It is best to find the right cut and style that works for your particular hair type.

Effective Beauty Treatments That Do Not Cost A Fortune

inexpense beauty treatment ideasWe all know that the pursuit of youth and beauty as we age can cost a pretty penny. First, advertisers create a beauty ideal that no one can live up to and then they sell us products that are supposed to make us look like the perfect, airbrushed models in their ads (who don’t even look that good in real life themselves). If I sound bitter, I think I might not be the only person out there who has become disillusioned with the beauty industry as a whole. And yet, what I have learned over time is that some of these products actually deliver what they promise (although to varying degrees). The trick is to find something that works and stick to it if possible, at least so long as your skin is responding. Fess up, ladies: even when you find something that works you’re still compelled to try other products (often with disastrous results). And further, you’re willing to spend way too much money in the process. However, there are ways to find effective beauty treatments that don’t cost a fortune. Here are a few options that will help you out.

For starters, you should always seek out samples of any products you want to try. By simply going to manufacturer websites or beauty counters you can often get trial size, or even full size bottles of the latest beauty treatments on the market. You might even get coupons to buy more should you decide you like the product. But another good idea is to read side-by-side reviews. These can help you to discover products that contain similar ingredients and offer nearly identical results, with the benefit that some are significantly less expensive than others. Just look at how the Olay Regenerist line has stacked up in blind tests – it nearly always comes out ahead of far pricier competitors. Reading user reviews may also be helpful, although you should take these with a grain of salt since women have a wide variety of skin woes and their reviews can be fairly subjective.

5 Ways To Use Olive Oil As a Beauty Product

use olive oil as a beauty productBelieve it or not, olive oil makes a great beauty product!  It is natural and inexpensive if you buy the regular kind.  No need to buy the more expensive extra virgin olive oil for anything except cooking, however, there are some oils you can use for just about anything!  If you read up on this Gundry MD Olive Oil review, for example, you’ll find that there are a number of uses.  Next, check out these 5 creative uses for olive oil that you might not have expected.  Who would have thought that oil could make you more beautiful! 🙂

 1. Get rid of acne.  Make a paste by mixing together salt and olive oil.  Rub it on your face, let it sit for about 3 minutes, and then rinse it off with warm water.  Do this for about a week and then do it less frequently (2 to 3 times a week).  The salt exfoliates your skin and the olive oil moisturizes it.

 2.  Use olive oil as a massage oil.

 3.  Use it as a hair conditioner.  Shampoo your hair first, and then apply the olive oil to your hair.  Be sure to rinse thoroughly.  Another option is to heat up some olive oil, apply it to your hair,  wear a shower cap or wrap a plastic bag over your hair for about 30 to 40 minutes and then wash your hair with shampoo.  Olive oil will moisturize your hair and make it look shiny.

 4.  Soften your cuticles before a manicure by dipping your fingernails in olive oil.  Rub the oil into your nails.

 5.  Use olive oil in place of shaving cream.  Women can use it to shave their legs.  Men can use it on their faces.  It is a great alternative for anyone with allergies or for people with dry skin.

Natural Facial Masks

If you enjoy pampering yourself with a facial mask once in a while, rather than buying expensive concoctions that are made up of chemicals, here are some suggestions of ways to make your own masks with common household products.

1. Mix clay cat litter, yes, cat littler, with warm water to make a thick paste. Rub it onto your face and let it set for 20 minutes. The clay cleans out your pores and detoxifies your skin.

2. Mash up a ripe banana into a paste and then apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off with cold water. Believe it or not, bananas moisturize your skin and make it soft.

3. If you don’t like the idea of smearing banana all over your face, you can try honey instead. Honey also moisturizes your skin and cleans your pores.

4. Mashing egg whites together into a frothy mixture and then gently applying them to your face and neck also works well.

So, next time you want to pamper yourself, try one of these natural alternatives at home and see how it works for you. Beauty doesn’t have to cost a fortune!
