Never Penny Pinch On These Things

As the saying goes, a penny saved is a penny earned, and this is something that any budget conscious person should aim to live their life by. That being said, there are a lot of things that you really shouldn’t cheap out on if you want to make your money stretch further.

Sometimes, you need to think about your long-term finances and not where you can make savings right now. Here are a few examples of that:Life Insurance

Life insurance terminology can be tricky to get to grips with, so it can be tempting to simply choose the cheapest policy and just go with it. However, to do this would be foolish. If you don’t know what the terminology means, then find someone who does, and bear in mind that the cheaper policies will not be as comprehensive as even slightly more expensive ones, which could leave your spouse and your children in a precarious position should the worse happen. No, it is almost always worth paying a little more for life insurance.

Pillows

If you’ve ever purchased cheap pillows, you will know that, after just a few weeks, perhaps a few months, if you’re lucky, they’re as flat as a pancake, and unless you want to spend many uncomfortable nights in bed, you have to run to the store and buy a few more. In the long term, paying a little bit more will not only save you money but also your neck, And go a fair way to helping protect the environment too, so don’t cheap out on your next set.

Garbage Bags

Due to their very nature, you might not think that you need to spend very much money in garbage bags at all, but the think about those cheap ones is that they tend to split and leak, which means you often need to use two or more to safely contain your trash, probably costing you more in the long term.

Medical Insurance

Like life insurance, medical insurance terminology can be a tough nut to crack, but again, it’s worth taking the effort to do so, and you must also think seriously before you choose the cheapest policy out there because, unless it’s the only one you can afford, you should be paying a little more now, so that you don’t end up bankrupt should a serious illness arise later.

Contraceptives

Need I say more? Buying cheap contraceptives could end up giving you a big surprise that will cost you considerably more than the price of a better brand!

Razors

This one isn’t really from a money-saving position because more expensive razors aren’t going to save you money, but they will stop you from shredding your skin on a semi-regular basis, so they are worth mentioning here.

Batteries

If you’re buying batteries for something that gets very little use, then you might just get away with using cheap batteries, but for something that you use regularly, and which demands a lot of power, like a games console controller, for example, buying more expensive batteries will save you money because they will last many times longer.

Some of these things are obviously more important than others, but they are all worth suspending your penny-pinch impulse for, for sure!
