Retirement Planning And Your Health

When it comes to retirement planning, be sure to not only consider the financial side of things.  Remember that taking care of your health is equally important.  You may be saving enough money to enjoy a long retirement, but if you aren’t exercising regularly and eating healthy foods, you may not be in prime physical shape in order to enjoy the things you plan to do upon retirement.

Although we cannot control our health entirely, the choices we make today will have a significant impact on our overall physical health.  When it comes to making healthy choices, don’t be too cheap.  Be willing to spend your money on the things that promote good health such as fresh vegetables and fruits, whole-grain pastas and breads, and multivitamins.  Don’t be too frugal when it comes to healthy choices, and despite what some may think, eating healthy doesn’t have to cost a lot.  If you compare the cost of buying fresh produce to buying prepackaged processed foods, you will discover that prepackaged foods can end up being more costly.

The End Of The Pennysaverblog 100 Day Challenge

Today is the last day of my 100-Day Challenge.  It has indeed been a challenge, but I am really glad I decided to do it as the extra exercise as well as the extra money I have saved has been a positive thing for me.

Since my last update my husband and I went on vacation for two weeks, so for that period of time I did not count my entertainment expenses as we already set aside a vacation budget specifically for that time period.  However, outside of our vacation spending, I was able to stick within my $100 entertainment budget, with money to spare.  We went to the seafood buffet again, so I still have $15 left.  Not bad.  I wasn’t sure if I would be able to do it.  I guess that means today I can go out and spend $15!  Just kidding!

Job Hunting Tips

If you are currently in the process of looking for a job, you can test how proficient you are at job hunting by taking the quiz called “How Sharp Are Your Job Hunting Skills?”  found under the Career & Business section at this link.

Some job hunting tips to remember from this quiz include:

-Don’t rely exclusively on the Internet when seeking a job.  Many jobs are not advertised and can only be found through networking.  Ask around and proactively make connections.

-It’s okay to negotiate an entry-level salary.   Most employers have some wiggle room in how much they can offer, so don’t be afraid to ask.

A recent report released by the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada has shed some light on the current financial situation for Canadians, and it’s not all good news.

Here are some of the findings from the report:

Pennysaverblog 100 Day Challenge Update 5

Well, this will be my last update until the end of my 100-Day Challenge.  With only 26 days to go, time has really flown by.  I have felt more positive about the challenge lately.  Exercising has become a more normal part of my routine each day. I even went for a walk one day during a break at work, which was nice.  I think I will start to do more of that even after the challenge is over.

My entertainment is down to just $35 now as I went to a concert that cost me $20.  I think I can manage to stick within this budget during the rest of this challenge without too much trouble.
